Split one PDF into smaller files

Use Split PDF when the complete source document should be divided into several smaller PDFs. Choose how the page boundaries are created, review each planned output, and generate the separate files.

Split by a fixed page count

Create output PDFs at regular page intervals when each file should contain the same number of source pages where possible.

Use the available split-point controls to define the boundaries between output PDFs instead of selecting only a few pages to keep.

Review every planned output

Check the page ranges shown for each output before processing so chapters, attachments, or other sections are not split at the wrong place.

About this tool

Divide the complete document instead of selecting a subset

Split PDF is for turning one source PDF into several outputs. It is different from Extract Pages, which creates a focused PDF from only the pages you choose.

Useful for

  • Separate reports, chapters, statements, or document bundles into smaller PDFs.
  • Create regularly sized output files when a fixed page count is supported.
  • Use explicit split boundaries when different sections end on different pages.

Good to know

  • Split PDF works on the full source document; use Extract Pages when only selected pages are needed.
  • Split PDF supports fixed pages per output or explicit split points, requires at least two source pages, and creates up to 50 output files.
  • Keep the original PDF until every generated output has been opened and checked.
