Changing image format changes how pixels, transparency, and compression are stored; it does not restore detail that is missing from the source. Choose the output format based on the next use of the image.

Use JPG when a smaller photographic file is useful

JPG is well suited to photographs but does not store transparent pixels. Transparent pixels are flattened onto white when converting to JPG.

Use PNG when transparency or crisp graphics matter

PNG can preserve transparency and is useful for logos, screenshots, and interface-style graphics. Converting a JPEG to PNG does not restore detail already lost to JPEG compression.

Use WebP only when the browser can encode it reliably

WebP can provide efficient image storage. The tool validates browser WebP encoding support before offering the converted file.
