Practical guidance

Annotate a PDF with a visible highlight and note

Annotate PDF is a focused review tool that places a coloured page-width highlight band on one selected page and can include a short note. It produces a new shareable copy while leaving the source document unchanged.

Highlight a PDF page during review

Use the visible band to draw attention to a relevant area or page in a report, assignment, proof, or approval workflow.

Add a short PDF note

Include a concise comment with the annotation so the recipient understands why the page was marked.

Understand the current annotation scope

This version does not provide freehand drawing, arbitrary text selection, or a full multi-annotation workspace. It applies one focused page annotation per run.

Questions people ask about this task

Can I annotate a PDF online for free?

Yes. Add a supported highlight and optional note without registration.

Can I select individual words to highlight?

No. The current tool creates a page-width highlight band rather than a freehand or text-selection highlight.

Does annotation change the original PDF?

No. It creates a new annotated copy and leaves the selected source document unchanged.

Add a Visible Note to One PDF Page

A visible note is useful when one page needs a short explanation, correction, or review marker that remains visible in the downloaded PDF.

Select one page, choose a Top, Centre or Bottom highlight band, enter a short optional note and download a new copy. The note is visible page content, not a hidden or threaded comment.

Follow the supported controls

  1. Choose the PDF and select the page that needs the note.
  2. Choose Top, Centre or Bottom and a band colour; the band cannot be dragged to an arbitrary line.
  3. Enter a short note using characters supported by the built-in font.
  4. Create and reopen the PDF. Confirm the note fits the band and does not obscure the page.

Keep a note short enough to read

The note uses a fixed-size font inside a horizontal band. Long wording can wrap beyond the useful marked area, so a short reference such as a section name and requested action is easier to review. Use Edit PDF when you need freely positioned text boxes, drawings or several marks across pages.

Questions about add a Visible Note to One PDF Page

Can I move the note anywhere on the page?

Annotate PDF offers fixed Top, Centre and Bottom bands. Use Edit PDF for freely positioned new text.

Is this a hidden PDF comment?

No. The note is drawn visibly into the downloaded page.

Can I annotate several pages in one job?

The current Annotate PDF job targets one selected page.

Mark One PDF Page on a Phone or Tablet

Touch controls can place a simple visible mark on one PDF page, but the mobile workflow has the same narrow annotation scope as desktop.

Choose a PDF from phone or tablet storage, select a page and one of three band positions, add an optional note and save the marked copy. Keep the tab open until processing completes.

Follow the supported controls

  1. Open Annotate PDF and select the document from Files, Downloads or the available device picker.
  2. Enter the target page number and choose Top, Centre or Bottom; choose the band colour.
  3. Enter a short optional note and create the PDF.
  4. Save through the browser and reopen from device storage. Check the selected page and the complete note.

Use controls rather than imprecise dragging

The band has three fixed positions and is not a finger-drawn highlighter. Browser file pickers and download locations vary, so confirm the saved filename before sharing. If you need a smaller free-position mark, switch to Edit PDF; changing zoom does not turn this band into a text-selection control.

Questions about mark One PDF Page on a Phone or Tablet

Can I draw with my finger in Annotate PDF?

No. This tool uses a fixed band. Edit PDF has a separate drawing tool.

Where does the phone save the PDF?

The browser uses its normal Downloads or Files flow; reopen the saved copy to confirm.

Can I select individual words?

No. The band is positioned at Top, Centre or Bottom on one chosen page.

Add a Horizontal Highlight Band to a PDF Page

PDFKaka's annotation control marks a horizontal area on one page; it does not select individual words like a desktop text highlighter.

Choose one page and a Top, Centre or Bottom horizontal band, then optionally add a short visible note. Individual words and irregular shapes are not selected by this tool.

Follow the supported controls

  1. Choose the PDF and enter the target page number.
  2. Choose the band position and colour. The band spans the page between fixed side margins.
  3. Add a short optional note if the reason for the mark needs explanation.
  4. Create the copy and inspect the marked page at normal zoom, including neighbouring text.

Choose the right mark for the passage

A full-width band can cross both columns of a report and does not follow a wrapped sentence. It can be useful for broad page-level emphasis, while an editor with freely positioned marks is better for a narrow table cell or several scattered passages. The text beneath remains in the PDF; highlighting does not redact it.

Questions about add a Horizontal Highlight Band to a PDF Page

Can I highlight exact words?

No. The current control uses a fixed horizontal band on one page.

Does the band remove the text below it?

No. It is a visible overlay; underlying content remains.

Can I choose a custom band height?

The current band size is fixed by the page; the available placement choices are Top, Centre and Bottom.
